Senator Delgado announced today that he is endorsing and putting his full support behind the candidacy of Omar Aquino for the 2nd Legislative District seat in which Delgado currently sits. Senator Delgado announced last week that he would not be seeking reelection for a third term as State Senator, a seat which he has held since 2006.

Statement from Sen. Delgado:
“I am putting my full support behind Omar Aquino for Senator of the 2nd District. Omar’s progressive values and commitment to continue my 18 year-long fight for working-class families while in the Illinois General Assembly is a testament to what I know he will accomplish once elected to office.”

“I was given the task of carrying on with the progressive agenda of Miguel del Valle when I was appointed to this Senate seat after his departure from the General Assembly. I took that task seriously and fought tirelessly for working-class families, unions, our public school system, public safety, and more accessible healthcare. This is now the agenda that Omar will take and move forward with to ensure our families live in a state where you are not persecuted merely because you are poor.”

Aquino is in a two person Democratic primary race for the 2nd Legislative District seat which is located on Chicago’s northwest side. The primary election will be held March 15, 2016.
